Careers Fair

Tobermory High School hosts an annual Careers Fair, organised in conjunction with DYW Argyll & Bute and Skills Development Scotland.

The Careers Fair is an opportunity for pupils to find out more about careers, by visiting our Marketplace where they can find out about the work our guests do, what they enjoy about their work, the pathway they followed to get there, and the experience and skills needed.

Pupil also have the chance to participate in workshops run by our visitors, giving a more in-depth and interactive look about what has inspired them, how they achieved their goals, as well as the practicalities of their line of work.

In the past we have welcomed local businesses and training opportunities, colleges, and universities, as well as those from further afield.

Our most recent Careers Fair took place in September 2023.

Digital World

Digital World promotes the skills and training needed to work in Scotland’s tech sector. Through case studies, and online learning tools, the site inspires school pupils to become digital humans, people who are able to challenge convention and make a real difference in the world through technology and creativity.

Apprenticeships.scot

Apprenticeships.scot is your one-stop shop for apprenticeships. You can find out how to build the experience and skills that employers want to see. And you can search and apply for apprenticeship vacancies across Scotland in a wide range of industries.

No matter what stage you’re at, apprenticeships can help you get set for a bright future.

• Foundation Apprenticeships: kick start your career while you’re still at school

• Modern Apprenticeships: work, learn and earn and get the skills you need

• Graduate apprenticeships: get a job, get paid and get a degree at the same time

Visit apprenticeships.scot to find the right apprenticeship for you.

S4 Work Placement

At the end of S4, all pupils complete a week of work experience.

This gives them a taster of the world of work and allows them to apply the skills they have learned across the curriculum in a workplace setting.

Pupils plan for the work placement during PSE, reviewing their career aspirations and identifying their learning goals, as well as learning about health and safety in the workplace.

Following their work experience, pupils reflect on what they learned during their placement and review their career aspirations in light of this.

This contributes to the Level 5 Personal Development: Self and Work Unit, accredited by SQA.
