Topic Finale

As we have come to the end of our topic on Polar Lands, the children had great fun dismantling the igloo. The once glowing, role play area was completely demolished as P1/2 jumped on all 250 milk bottles to flatten them. The bottles will now be recycled. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the milk bottle collection.

The Church

We have been learning about ‘places of worship’ as part of our RE lessons. We recently visited the church and the minister Liz Gibson gave us a tour of the church and explained what everything was. We created our own version of stain glass windows. Donna, who is training to be a minister showed us some bibles and sang some songs.

Rabbie Burns

We learned the poem ‘The Sair Finger’ for our Burns’ assembly. We also illustrated the Burns’ poem ‘My Heart’s in the Highlands’. The thistle is Scotland’s national emblem so we were very proud to use pastels to draw a thistle. We also use rainbow colours to make a ‘funky Rabbie Burns’.

P2/3 News

Last term, Primary 2/3 were exploring Under the Sea as their class topic.

Through research and amazing artwork, the pupils learned about different sea creatures and their habitats.

In our class, we created our own aquarium called ‘The Big Blue Aquarium’ where you could buy tickets and learn about the different creatures of the sea!

As part of our topic we also invited special visitors such as the Whale and Dolphin Trust, the RNLI, including a virtual tour on a Cal Mac ferry, to discuss different jobs at sea.

Primary 2/3 were inspired during our discussion on water pollution to explore different ways we can keep the sea clean and protect our environment.

This term, Primary 2/3 have been learning about Scottish Inventors. The pupils have had lots of fun learning about how popular things we use today, such as the telephone the television, have developed over time to the products we use today.

Through drama, we have re-enacted the moments these products were invented. We have also discussed the importance of pixels in creating clear images on televisions AND explored sounds and vibrations through creating our very own telephones!

We are looking forward to designing and creating our very own inventions soon. I wonder what we will create!

P4/5 News

School Minibus Fundraiser

P4/5 were asked to create some posters for the PTA to promote and fundraise for our school minibus. There were lots of excellent designs and catchy slogans.

 Aros Park Theatre Trip

On Monday 25th October P4/5 had a fun, wet morning in Aros Park learning about Global Warming and it's impact on our environment and future. Then on Thursday 28th this was followed up with a fantastic morning watching the Positive Imaginings Climate Circus in Aros Park. It was a very interactive performance full of music, dance and thoughts of how we can protect our planet from climate change. Thank you Rowanbank Environmental Arts and Education for inviting us to take part in your magical, mystical show. We loved it!

 Art

This term P4/5 have been looking at different artists and their skills and techniques. We used paint splatters, marble rolling and dots, inspired by the work of Jackson Pollock to create backgrounds for our Zentangle hands. It was messy but lots of fun and the results are very effective.

Rally Fever

We were delighted to welcome Mr and Mrs Brown with their super rally car to school. It was great to see up close all the special features of a rally car and ask lots of questions. This was followed by a visit from some rally marshals who talked to us about rally safety. We are all very excited for this year’s rally and made some excellent rally art to wish everyone a safe, fun Rally 2023.

Fun 31

On a Friday we love Fun 31 time when we can choose different activities and play with our friends. This ties in with article 31 of the Children’s Rights, which we are promoting in our Rights Respecting School ethos.

Mod

P4/5 had lots of fun learning and performing “The Hokey Cokey” in Gaelic at the local Mod in September. We got excellent marks and lovely, positive comments from the adjudicators too! Well done everyone.

P6/7 News

Scotland

Since coming back in January the Primary department have been learning about things Scottish. In Primary 6/7 the children have gone back in time to learn about Mary Queen of Scots and some myths and legends. The children have had lots of opportunities to get creative both through art and drama! We have now acted out the extremely eventful life of Mary Queen of Scots in all its stages and I think it has definitely helped them remember all the drama!  The children have also created their own mythical creature to write about both in report and story form. So these topics have really hit the headlines in our classroom!

 Practical Maths

Sometimes the best way to understand why something is called a certain name is to work it out yourself. Here are a few pictures of the children exploring, squared, cubed and prime numbers. Can you see why they get their names?

 Fun 31

In the UNCRC, Article 31 says ‘You have the right to relax, play and to join in with a wide range of activities.’ When the children have these opportunities in class we call this Fun 31. It is great to see the children socialise, work together and have fun during this time!
