As part of our wider achievement activities in Tobermory High School, learners have the opportunity to gain a Saltire Award. This formally recognises, celebrates and rewards the achievements of young volunteers. The award reflects the commitment and contribution learners have shown, and is nationally recognised by the Scottish Government.

Volunteering as part of the school curriculum or indeed, within the wider community, allows learners to learn, develop and grow. Currently, we have a small group of pupils who spend Monday afternoons volunteering at Glen Iosal, the local sheltered housing facility. Our pupils spend time with the residents, play games with them and provide catering. This multigenerational activity proves popular and many senior students cite it as a highlight of their wider achievement experiences.
